Meet Our Team
Steve is an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and has worked for many of the world's leading private addiction, eating disorder and mental health treatment centres. He has several years’ experience in private practice, specialising in the psychology of addictive behaviours and holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Addiction Psychology and Counselling from London South Bank University. He also holds master practitioner status in eating disorders, nutrition and obesity. He draws on a wide range of therapeutic models and looks at how addiction forms psychologically, genetically and biologically.
Steve also worked with a major UK charity specialising in working with children of dysfunctional families who may experience bullying, bereavement, domestic violence, family breakdown, neglect and trauma. Not only does he specialise in addiction, mental health and eating disorders, but he has also held a number of senior roles with some of the world’s leading blue chip organisations and therefore fully understand the complexity and difficulty of how addiction, stress, depression and eating disorders impact the workplace.
Dr Sarah Flowers
Consultant Addiction Psychiatrist
Dr Sarah Flowers is a consultant addiction psychiatrist and has been working at Lifeworks since November 2018.
Dr Flowers qualified in 2003 and began her training to be an addiction psychiatrist the following year. She has extensive experience working in London (Camden and Maudsley Rotation) and in Sussex, in a variety of inpatient and community settings.
Dr Sarah Flowers is proficient in managing the range of substance use disorders and addictions. Her training included five years of general psychiatric experience in Sussex and at the Maudsley Hospital and she is experienced in assessing a wide range of co-existing mental health disorders (for example anxiety, stress-related illness, depression, trauma and personality disorders). Dr Sarah Flowers combines clinical expertise with a deep understanding of recovery. She was elected a director of Alcoholics Anonymous UK in April 2015 (the youngest board member to date) and leads a programme of addictions training across the South East.
Dr Farrukh Alam is a consultant psychiatrist at Life Works and The Cottage and has worked as an expert in the treatment of addictions in London for 25 years. During these years, he has helped people with psychological difficulties that are affecting their lives. His specialist area is addiction; helping people with alcohol, drug, and other compulsive behaviours to achieve recovery and maintain a happy life.
After completing medical training at the Universities of St Andrews and Manchester, Dr Alam’s psychiatric training was at National Drug and Alcohol Units at The Maudsley Hospital, London SE5.
His NHS role is Associate Medical Director at Central & Northwest London Foundation Trust, and he is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, Faculty of Addictions.
Dr Eileen Feeney
Visiting Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Eileen Feeney is a visiting consultant psychiatrist at Life Works and has been working with Priory since 2000.
Dr Feeney studied medicine at Trinity College, Dublin, qualifying in 1986. She practised paediatrics and family medicine prior to specialising in psychiatry. Her decision to enter the field of mental health was in part prompted by first-hand experience of mental health issues within her own family. After gaining a Master of Psychological Medicine at Monash University Australia, she worked in private practice in Hong Kong and was assistant professor at Hong Kong University.
After moving to the UK, in 1999, Dr Feeney worked in both the NHS, at the Chrysalis Eating Disorders service at Chertsey, Surrey and also at Priory Hospital Woking. She has corporate experience in the implementation and provision of Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs).
Dr Peter Webster
Visiting Consultant Psychiatrist in Eating Disorders
Dr Peter Webster is a visiting consultant psychiatrist in eating disorders at Life Works and The Cottage. Dr Webster has worked with Priory for 15 years primarily with inpatients and outpatients suffering from Eating Disorders and other psychiatric conditions.
Dr Webster studied Medicine and Theology at the University of Cambridge before completing his medical studies at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. He trained in Psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital and Institute of Psychiatry where he was a Consultant Psychiatrist in Eating Disorders at the National Eating Disorder Service. He then moved to set up the Eating Disorders Unit at The Priory Hospital Chelmsford.
Dr Stroma Macfarlane
Visiting Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Stroma MacFarlane has been a general adult consultant psychiatrist working in the NHS in Portsmouth for the last six years and latterly, Clinical Director of the Adult Mental Health and Substance Misuse Services just prior to taking up her role at Priory and as visiting consultant at Life Works and The Cottage.
Dr Stroma has a broad range of psychiatric experience working in a community setting. In her role at Life Works Dr Macfarlane will provide assessment and treatment of addictions, and eating disorders.
Dr Lorna Richards
Visiting Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Richards joined Priory Group in February 2018 as a consultant psychiatrist specialising in adult eating disorders, and is a visiting consultant psychiatrist at Life Works and The Cottage.
Dr Richards graduated from the University of Birmingham Medical School in 1995 with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree (MBChB). She was awarded an Honours in Epidemiology and Public Health.
She completed specialist training in psychiatry at the Royal Free and University College London Hospitals, and South London and Maudsley Mental Health Trust. She completed higher training in 2003, achieving membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych).
She went on to complete a Master’s Degree in Medical Ethics and Law at Kings College London, graduating in 2005.
Dr Richards has practised as a consultant psychiatrist since 2003. She spent 14 years working at Barnet Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust in one of the 4 comprehensive Eating Disorders Services in London serving a population of 5 million. She led the development of the community service for 10 years and acted as clinical lead for the latter 2 years. She joined Priory Group in 2018.
Dr Andrew Iles
Visiting Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Andrew Iles is a visiting consultant psychiatrist at Life Works and The Cottage. Dr Iles qualified as a doctor in 2004 and worked in London, Oxford, Berkshire and South Wales before becoming a consultant in 2011. From 2011, Dr Iles worked for South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, where he was involved in the set-up of an innovative pilot project. He held the position of consultant psychiatrist at St Andrew's Hospital in Northampton for the following four years. He currently leads a locked rehabilitation ward for women with personality disorders and disordered eating; soon, he will be working in community services for Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Trust. He is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Psychiatry.

Primary Therapist and Sex Addiction Lead
Robin completed his training in addiction counselling at Clouds in 2002 and has spent the last 13 years working for major addiction treatment providers in the UK. He is a strong advocate of both 12 Step treatment and long term recovery through the 12 Step programme. Robin believes in encouraging clients to engage honestly with others whilst in treatment and to continue this process by meeting regularly with other recovering people for support. He is particularly keen on involving the family in the treatment process and has considerable experience of facilitating groups in the family programme. Robin also holds a CPCAB accredited Diploma in Sex Addiction Counselling.
Jan McMillan works at Life Works and is a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).
Jan has experience working with dual diagnosis, addiction, depression and anxiety, along with her integrative training, allowing for a multi-therapeutic approach in her work with clients. She is committed to maintaining her academic understanding of addiction and its links to trauma and other mental health diagnosis, and continue to attend professional development training. Since completing her Diploma in Integrative Therapeutic Counselling, she has worked for various agencies as part of their substance misuse programme.
Barry holds a MA in Drama and Movement Therapy (Sesame), a BA (Hons) in Drama from the University of Manchester and a PGDip In Counselling from the University of North London. His professional background prior to training as a Dramatherapist was as a therapeutic counsellor. He has many years experience of working within both the private and voluntary sector. His work experience includes: LGBT clients, people recovering from problematic alcohol or substance misuse, mental health issues (depression, personality disorder, schizophrenia, eating disorders and OCD), dual diagnosis, older clients, loss and bereavement, children and young people, sexuality, gender, sexual health and HIV.
Eating Disorder Programme Lead
David joined Life Works in March 2017 and is the eating disorder programme lead. Previously he has worked as an addictions therapist with experience in both private and community-based settings, working with individuals who are struggling with addiction and other issues, as well as with their family members.
David is a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and member of the Federation of Drug and Alcohol Professionals (FDAP) and adheres to their ethical frameworks.
David qualified with a Postgraduate Diploma in Addiction Psychology and Counselling, with distinction, from London South Bank University in June 2014. He has since gone on to study eating disorders with the National Centre for Eating Disorders, attending their 13 day master practitioner course in 2017.
Rebecca is a registered Nutritionist with the AfN after completing her MSc in Human Nutrition. She is currently undertaking the Master Practitioner course in eating disorders as well as an applied ‘intuitive eating and not-diet approaches in practice’ course. Alongside working at the centre, Rebecca has her own private practice as well as consulting in sports nutrition at Chelsea Ladies Football Club. Rebecca is passionate about helping people to understand their eating habits and feel at ease making choices that are catered towards their personal needs and goals. Her nutritional approach follows the belief that everyone is different, but food is ultimately to be enjoyed in a healthy and balanced way, without judgement.
Eating Disorders Dietitian
Stefanos Pagonidis is a dietitian registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA). Stefanos holds a BSc (Hons) in Dietetics and is completing his MSc in Eating Disorders and Clinical Nutrition at the University College London (UCL).
Throughout his career, Stefanos has gained multinational experience along with valuable knowledge deriving from his participation in big scale research projects. Stefanos has a wide experience in metabolic diseases nevertheless, his passion is the understanding and treatment of eating disorders where he finds himself thriving through counselling and providing tailored-made treatment to patients. Stefanos believes that helping a person successfully overcome their mental health barriers is the biggest recognition a health professional can achieve.
Julie Gates is Life Works' shiatsu therapist, masseuse and music workshop facilitator.
Julie has been working in the mental health field for 20 years and has worked in several addiction rehabilitation centres as well as working with professional athletes. Julie has worked at Life Works for over three years and teaches the shiatsu, stretch and relaxation group, which incorporates acupressure, Qi Gong and meditation techniques to encourage natural relaxation.
Julie qualified with the British School of Shiatsu and was trained in massage by Claire Maxwell Hudson.
